Hi, my name is Rebecca and I'm an eighteen year old first year student at an Agricultural University located about 40 km from the nearest main town. All the students on campus live in single rooms in the university halls of residence. The rooms are quite large, and each has its own bathroom and a large area for studying.

I was brought up by my parents in Marysville, a town of about six thousand people but a town which also served as the main town for a large area farming community. My dad Brett owned and ran the only barbershop and tobacconist in the town with assistance by my mother.

The shop had one main barber station with a large barbers chair and a second station with a smaller barbers chair. Dad manned the larger chair and my mum Michelle looked after the tobacconist and reception side of the business. Mum was a qualified hairdresser when she met dad and worked in a beauty salon in the town until they married when she moved to help dad out in the saloon. Being a hairdresser, mum was able to run the second chair in the saloon when things got busy and sometimes after school I would assist by looking after the front of the saloon. Mum and dad both smoked which was common for barbers and barberettes in those days where the saloon included a tobacconists store so it was inevitable that I would eventually try and then get hooked on cigarettes although I did not smoke in front of mum and dad for a couple of years.

Dads barber station was set up with two sets of clippers, a large "OSTER 97" machine with detacheable cutting heads and a more modest "WAHL" machine with clip on plastic cutting guides which cut the hair to various lengths. The second position had a single "WAHL" machine only. There was a complete set of blades for the "OSTER's" and both "WAHL" machines had a complete set of coloured plastic cutting combs.

Dad was a keen outdoor sportsman and would often go on hunting or fishing trips with his mates leaving mum to run the saloon alone. Mum never used to mind as it gave her a chance to work the big chair and the "OSTER" clippers which she used to like. She used to say to me that they gave her a feeling of power.

From an early age when dad went away I would help mum in the shop after school and as I grew older I spent more and more time watching mum using the clippers and performing haircuts on men and boys. Eventually mum noticed how interested I was and started to allow me to perform the odd haircut under her close supervision of course. I started on the young boys who would come in with their mums. My mum would only charge a very small amount for the haircuts that I initially did.

Dad did not know and still does not know that mum was slowly training me to cut hair but as I got older every time he went away mum would encourage me to work her chair at the saloon after school, and on Saturdays, and soon I was confident enough to perform haircuts on men unsupervised. I enjoyed giving all over buzzcuts the best.

When I decided to go to university and with the unversity so far out of town mum suggested I take a set of haircut equipment with me. She suggested I might be able to make a bit of money on the side by offerig the male students cheap haircuts. After all the nearest barber is over 40 km away. I asked mum if they had any clippers and scissors which they no longer used and she suggested I look in the cupboard under the vanity at dads barber station at the saloon.

The day before I was to leave for Uni dad was away on one of his trips. Mum gave me a key and I went down to the saloon. I opened the cupboard under the vanity and to my surprise found a variety of clippers. There was a brand new "OSTER 97" and a brand new "WAHL" machine, both still in their boxes. There were also two other black boxes. I took one out of the cupboard. One end of the box had a Union Jack flag design and written on the top of the box were the words "CLUKES" Silent Giant Electric Hair Clipper. Made in Birmingham. Fully Adjustable Lever Operated Blade.

I took the lid off the box to find a big silver clipper with a chrome top with the words CLUKES SILENT GIANT MODEL engraved on the top. I took the clipper out of its box the bottom of which was covered in clippered hair and plugged it in. I turned it on with the switch on the side and it started to purrrrr. It certainly lived up to its name of silent giant but boy it also had beautiful vibrations. I held it to my crotch and it gave me a mild thrill before I turned it off and repacked it in the box. There was also a complete set of coloured clip on plastic cutting guides of sizes 8, 6, 4, 3, 2 and 1 in a plastic bag. I took the Silent Giant and the bag of guides and put them in my bag. I also found a new haircut cape and a bottle of clipper oil which I put in the bag.

After locking the saloon I went to the local chemist shop where I was able to purchase a pair of hair cut scissors, a pair of thinning scissors both of which had a finger rest, and finally a barber neck brush. I took it all home and showed mum who approved of what I had. I also told mum that dad had a new "OSTER" clipper in the cupboard to which she replied that she would be getting it for her working chair and that dad could buy a new one to have as a spare.

Next day it was time for me to move to the university and I packed up my bags for the three hour drive. I packed the haircutting gear in a small separate bag. Once at the university I was allocated my room which was on the third (top) floor of the dormitory. I unpacked all my gear into the drawers / cupboards provided and placed the haircut gear in the cupboard under the bathroom vanity. It would probably be a week or two before I would get to use it I thought to myself.

I then wandered down to the common room and mingled with the students before it was time for dinner. The boys out numbered the girls by about two to one, however I soon met a couple of nice girls who I thought would be OK to hang out with. Natasha (call me Tash) and Rochelle (call me Shell). Tash had long dark black hair half way to her waste while Shell was a brunette with hair just past her shoulders. Both girls lived further from the Uni than me and had come by a bus ride of six hours. I kept my own bottle blonde hair relatively short (not below my shoulders). Mum had cut and coloured it for me about six weeks ago when dad was away on one of his hunting trips with the boys. At the time she gave me a good undercut with the "OSTER" clippers. Boy I love the feel of that machine when mum is buzzing my neck.

The first week at uni was orientation and getting to know the campus and lecturers with the second week being the first with full on tutorials. A social night had been arranged for the Saturday following the third week and I was approached by a good looking young guy named Rob who asked if I would partner him to the social. I said I would think about it and let him know the next day. While Rob was exceptionally good looking he had long hair to below his collar which made him look like a girl. I knew I could fix that for him so went to him the next day with a proposition. I found him during one of the lecture breaks and told him I would go to the social with him but he would need to get a haircut to tidy up his looks. He told me it was something that he had meant to do before leaving home but had simply run out of time. He thought there may be a barber on campus but there wasn't and the closest was in the city 40 km away.

I said to him that I had done some haircutting before and would be able to do it for him. He said that he wouldnt mind that so we arranged for him to come to my room on Thursday night where I would perform the deed.

For me Thursday couldn't come soon enough. My first campus haircut. I met Rob and we sat together for dinner before moving up to my room. I asked Rob if he really wanted to go through with me cutting his hair and he replied that if it meant I was to partner him to the social then that was it. I had set up my haircut gear on the vanity in the bathroom before going down for dinner. I had the clippers plugged in ready to go and had moved my study chair into the bathroom in front of the mirror.

I invited Rob to take a seat on the chair which he did and I then caped him up so to speak. I asked him if he had thought about what sort of haircut he wanted. He answered that he had not given it much thought but because it was so hot he would like it pretty short. Well the word short when talking about hair is a word barberettes love hearing. It kind of turns them on in a way.

I thought to myself I'm going to take it quite short so I may as well cut it off his collar before I try combing it a few different ways to see how it looks. I took the comb and scissors from the vanity and started by combing the top hair into my fingers and shortening it to about four fingerlengths. I cut about six inches off. Once I had shortened the top down I used the scissors to cut round the side and back to about the bottom of Rob's neck. His hair was very thick so I then took the thinning scissors and gave his hair a good overall thin out. I then dampened his hair a little and tried to comb his hair into different styles. All the time his hair wanted to stand up.

I said to him that I could do a traditional short back and sides with a parting on one side or we could go for either the flat top or all over buzz cut. He said why dont we try the flat top first and if that does not work then we can go for the all over buzz cut. Fine I replied to him.

I picked up the clipper from the vanity and attached the number eight guide before turning the machine on and adding a couple of drops of oil to the blades which immediately reduced the noise. Then standing behind him I plunged the buzzing machine with its serious vibes up the back of his neck to the top of his occipital bone. I gave the machine a flick and a large amount of hair dropped to the floor. I continued first around his right side and then his left making sure I had it even all round. With the first round completed I took off the number eight guide and using the clipper over comb technique which mum had taught me trimmed off the longer hair all round above the level of his occipital bone. With that complete I started to trim the top into a flat top once again using the clipper over the comb. Unfortunately I did not have a large flat top comb and as a result I had problems getting the top as flat as I wanted.

I talked to Rob and eventually he decided what the hell lets go for the all over buzz. I decided to do the all over buzz in stages so initially started by reattaching the number eight guide. I mowed a strip from the front to the back of his head. Over and over I continued including rebuzzing the side above the occipital bone which I had earlier done using the clipper over comb.

The number eight left the top a bit long such that it did not stick up properly so we decided to take it down to a number four. I swapped the eight guide for a number four. By now the clippers had been running for some time and were quite warm and beginning to get a bit noisy so I added another couple of drops of oil. I started from the front of his forehead with the number four blade and buzzed him straight across and down the back to his nape leaving a great inverted mowhawk. A few strokes more over the top front front to back and side to side and it was looking pretty good. Now to tidy up the sides.

I first ran around the sides with the number four blade before swapping to the number two. With the number two blade I blended the sides and back into the number four buzzed hair. Finally I took the two guide off and with the lever in the fully up position for close clipping I once again buzzed around the sides and back blending into the number two cut hair. Finally I undid the cape and with the clipper inverted buzzed down his neck shaving off all the neck fuzz. Afinal brush of with the neck brush and my first Uni saloon haircut was complete.

Rob got up from the chair and looked very pleased with the result. He offered to pay but I said this ones on the house as long as we have a good time at the social and if any one asks who cut your hair you tell them you went to Beckys Uni saloon and please spread the word. My normal charge will be ten dollars.

Needless to say the word soon spread about the blonde barber on campus and it became inevitable that I would be kept busy in the evenings and on Saturdays. However I made a point that I would only do haircuts between 6:30 and 8:00 in the evenings so that I gave myself time for study.

THE END
