The other day I was again at the salon. Even though it was still very early I wasn't the first one. The stylist told me that I would have to wait some time, because her colleague just had gone on sick leave, and so she would have to deal herself with all the customers, until her colleague could return to work.
No problem. I liked to go to this salon. You don't need to make an appointment, and if you have to wait, you can enjoy the view in the meantime. Sometimes it can get really interesting, like today.
The customer before me was a young lady whose hair almost reached her shoulders. Unfortunately it was somewhat uneven and needed an urgent trim. But the strange thing were her bangs, they seemed to have been dried by rolling the hair over a round brush, so that they were shaped like a roll, but in spite of this, they nearly reached her eyes. It looked kind of funny.
After her hair had been washed, I noticed that her bangs reached to the middle of her nose. The stylist asked how she wanted her hair cut. The customer said she only wanted a trim; but surely the bangs too?
Noooo, the young woman almost shouted.
The stylist hesitated and asked if she wouldn't prefer to part her hair. The customer just shook her head. A small discussion started, and in the end the customer agreed, but only a little bit. Well, said the stylist, a little bit more, and took the scissors and cut the bangs at just over the eyebrows.
The customer got big eyes, put her hand over the mouth and said something that I couldn't understand.
The stylist had made a typical mistake; the wet hair would get even shorter after it had dried.
The stylist apologized immediately, and tried to fix it with the blow dryer.
A scar could be seen under the now short bangs. Oh, that was the reason. The customer was getting red in the face for shame.

retended not to notice, and started to shorten the rest of the hair.
After having cut off about an inch, she complained that the hair was quite damaged. She'd really would have to cut off a lot more.
The hair was now in a bob. It was looking much too conservative. The woman didn't even want to look into the mirror.
Maybe I should thin it, and again started cutting the bangs. Suddenly she cut the bangs very short. The customer was shocked, but the stylist calmed her, and claimed she had now gotten "The Idea" and promised, that she really would end looking terrific.
The young woman just shrugged her shoulders and nodded, without saying a word. Now the stylist really started to cut, and not straight across as before, but almost vertically along the hair strands. An the end she even used the clipper.
My breath stopped when she placed the clipper at the neck and slowly began to cut upwards. Wow! Her whole neck was buzzed short and she even passed the clipper once around the ears. Without an attachment, she shaved the neck. Then she again used comb and scissors to blend in the different lengths and then finished it with a straight razor. After that she took a jar of gel and styled the hair. Ready.
The customer was starting to get up, but the stylist held her back. Then she got her make-up case and started to work on the customer's face. After she had finished she removed the cape. The young woman took a deep breath, looked into the mirror and got very happy.
Wow! What a change! A beautiful young woman got out of the chair, and even the scar could hardly be seen. The customer hugged the stylist gratefully and left the salon radiating with happiness. On this day I decided to do without a new haircut, I followed the young woman and spontaneously invited her for breakfast.
