This is a story which happens in my street; about six houses from my house there lived a beautiful family. A father, mother and two daughters, elder daughter is Nisha, she is doing her 12th and the younger daughter is Usha and she is doing her 10th, since both of them are going to face their public exams their mother who is a housewife is very strict in their studies, their father is working in a private bank.
Both Nisha and Usha are beautiful in their physical appearance, they got many love proposals but they rejected them due to his mother’s strictness. Nisha got waist length thick, black hair whereas Usha got below shoulder length hair. They used to comb their hair in the verandah and they spend most of their time in dressing up their hairs, I used to see and enjoy as if I comb their hair.
One fine morning their mother was talking with her neighbor hood lady, in the conversation their mother told these girls spend most of their morning time in maintaining their hair and that neighbor lady replied better take them to nice beauty parlor and give them nice haircuts because this is the age for them to study well and get good marks so they can get placed in a good college.
On that night she discussed with her husband and decided to give Nisha shoulder length bob and Usha should get chin length bob. Next day morning during breakfast she told Nisha and Usha about their haircuts and she is going to take them to parlor on Sunday. First they rejected but her mother convinced that this will suit them well and they will look like cinema actress with new hair style and finally they accepted.
She happily told about this to neighbor lady but she opposed and told this will not give complete solution because these are beautiful haircuts and this will make them to concentrate on their hair maintenance so better give them short haircuts, her mother thought for a while but didn’t say anything to their family members.
On Sunday morning both the girls took their breakfast and with ponytail came to their mom and told they are ready. Her mother took them to the nearest parlor in her car. There was only one customer and they were asked to wait. Both the girls were nervous but Nisha was somewhat cool because she is going to have shoulder length hair it doesn’t bring major change but Usha is nervous since she is going to have a new look with chin length bob. When they were asked to come in Nisha went first and took the chair, stylist took a red color cloth and covered her body leaving her head and hair outside. Stylist removed the ponytail and asked what kind of hair cut and started to massage her hair Nisha replied shoulder length bob cut and smiled, suddenly her mother replied NO give her short hair cut like a boy cut she was shocked and started to argue with her mother and finally her mother asked will you obey me or not? Nisha replied no and went out to the waiting area.
Her mother looked Usha and asked at least will you obey me, Usha with tears in her eyes went slowly and sat in the big chair, stylist wasting no time took the red cloth and covered her and removed her ponytail and took the clippers and a comb and started to cut the hair to chin length and reduced more, a bunch of hairs fell in her lap from her fore head. In no minute beautiful Usha look like a boy, then she kept the clippers and took a pair of scissors and reduced some more hair in her sides, Nisha was enjoying from outside by seeing Usha. .After ten min she was ready with new look, stylist wiped out the hairs from nape. She came out like a boy her mother was smiling and took them home, Nisha played by touching Usha’s head. Her mother was angry on Nisha and she was seriously disusing with her husband about something and during dinner she told to their daughter’s that tomorrow there is a festival in our family temple and we are going there so apply leave in your school for two day’s and she went to sleep.
Nisha was busy in packing and Usha didn’t show any interest because she thought their relatives will make fun of her new haircut. They started early in the morning and reached their temple in noon by 3:00 pm. Nisha look like an angel with her new half saree and braided hair and she also had hair length jasmine flower in her braid. They took their lunch in a hotel many boys were attracted to Nisha on that day by 4:00 pm her mother told to her husband, you and Usha wait near the main gate and we will be there in ten min and took Nisha with her. After walking some distance they reached a small building it was crowded Nisha saw the board in the top and shocked it was written MUDI KANIKKAI THARUMIDAM (means hair offering to god- place for head shave) she asked mom why are we here? Her mother hold Nisha’s hand and took her inside the building the entire barber’s were busy and she found a barber was free, Nisha was made to sit in front of the barber and her mother made Nisha to bow in front of the barber and asked him to shave Nisha’s head. Nisha was totally helpless and the barber took away the flowers and removed the hairpins from Nisha’s heads and unbraided her hair and took a mug full of water and poured in her head and massaged for two min and separated her hair into two parts and made two bun and took straight edge razor and changed the blade meantime water droplets were falling in Nisha’s body from her hair and the barber started to shave Nisha’s head in two min left side is bald and a bunch of hair fell in her lap and barber continued in the next half in another two min she was sitting totally bald, barber again applied water and shaved once for shining. Then Nisha stood up two bunches of hairs fell from her lap.
Her mother sat in front of the barber and told to shave her head too and told Nisha this is a punishment for me for not teaching you how to be obedient with parents? And she bowed in front of the barber, since her mother also got same length hair as Nisha, same procedure is followed and in four min her mother is also bald. Nisha was very much upset, her mother took her to the place where bald people were taking bath and they both took bath and changed their dress and went to the main gate where Usha and her father is waiting. When Usha and her father saw Nisha and her mother they started to laugh and they went and touched their head and started to make fun of them. During the journey to their home Nisha saw her face in the rear view mirror and started to cry heavily. Usha was laughing when Nisha cried. Next day morning when I went to see those two beautiful girls combing their hair, I was shocked to see a beautiful girl who got waist length long hair is now bald, and a beautiful women who got waist length long hair is now bald, and a girl who got below shoulder length shining hair got hair has now got hair shorter than me.
